Somewhere Else

Somewhere Else

I was lucky enough to have this article, “Somewhere Else,” published in SAD Magazine’s 10th Anniversary Issue: Nostalgia. This article takes a stab at the emotional complexity many young people experience in an increasingly globalized world; feeling a murky sense of identity, nostalgia & wistfulness, all bundled together with a confused idea of where we belong. You can check out the excerpt below, or grab yourself a copy over at SAD Magazine.

~

“Nowadays, the social framework of identity and belonging is more complex than ever. We travel and move around the world with increasing ease. Especially in a diverse city like Vancouver, many of us find ourselves moving or having lived in other places or with family origins from places that we may never have, or seldom have, visited. This causes increased transiency in our conception of where we belong. With so many possible courses that our lives can take, it’s almost impossible not to wonder what would have happened if we had made another choice. Would we be happier? How would we be different? Or, even simpler, what would it be like?”
